Kelly Howell: Hey everybody, welcome to Theatre of the Mind. I'm your host, Kelly Howell. Today's show is on the Human Design System. This is, yet again, another map. I don't know why but I am into maps right now. Coming up, we have Genoa Bliven from Human Design America.


Now I know nothing about Human Design, it is completely new to me. I did a little bit of research on the web and found a study that was done on it by Eleanor Portner, Ph.D. and Marvin Portner, M.D. What they say is that the Human Design System is a synthesis of astrology, the Hindu Chakra system, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and the I Ching. Apparently Human Design can give you a strategy for living your life authentically. It can tell you why you are with the people you are with. It can tell you what you have always been seeking, and where you have been conditioned to be other than yourself. It is not about changing who you are, but recognizing who you have always been.


I haven't had a reading yet. I am going to have a reading. I will let you know how it goes. If you have been thinking about getting an astrology reading, I would look into this first, because it is very different and I like what I have read about it so far. I like the idea of the strategies that it provides you with; and the people that I know who have had readingsand these are very seasoned people in terms of getting readingshave just raved about it. So here we go with the interview.


Welcome to Theatre of the Mind, thanks for coming by, Genoa.
Genoa Bliven: Thank you so much. It's great to be here.
Kelly: What is the Human Design System?
Genoa: Well, that is a really good question, because the Human Design System arrived in the world by a revelation, and it came fullborn, so to speak. There it was. It was eight days and eight nights of revelation. They came to a man named Robert Allan Cracowerhe's a Canadian. He wasn't into this sort of thing at all, so he was as surprised by this as the rest of us were. It came in great detail and complete, and so there it was, and for the last 19 years we have all been working on, well, what is this, and what is it really for, and what is it best used for?


So at first, of course, we thought it was a major system of cosmologywhich it is, but that is not really what is most interesting about it.
Kelly: So what is most interesting about it?
Genoa: What is most interesting about it is that this hugely complex, immaculately organized system of cosmology compresses or folds up like a mountain tent, where you have this large structure that six people can go camping in, and it folds up and turns into something you can put into your backpack. The Human Design is so organized in a certain way that it compresses into very, very simple information.
Kelly: Right. I saw it compresses into four different types?
Genoa: That's right, and those types are energetic types. What we are talking about in the Human Design is the energy of your aura, how your aura actually functions and how you can learn to cooperate with your auric energy in such a way to establish what we might call "firm" or "good rapport" with other people, where you get to live out your true nature.


But we start out by measuring the structure of the solar system in a very similar way to how you would in astrology...
Kelly: OK.
Genoa: ...we measure the positions of all of the planets very, very carefully.
Kelly: So you would start with my birthday.
Genoa: Yes, birth date, time and place, as with a normal astrology chart. The Human Design is a fusion of astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, and the Hindu Chakra system, as well as modern genetics. It emerged from a level of consciousness where those five thingsthose four ancient systems of cosmology, and modern geneticsare all fused into one thing.
Kelly: Wow.
Genoa: They only become something separate as we descend a scale, so to speak, of consciousness. The Human Design emerged from a level of consciousness where all those things are fused together, and it indicates how your aura is shaped, how it functions energetically, how you interface with other people.
Kelly: How is it different than astrology?
Genoa: Well, the Human Design chart, as you can see there...
Kelly: It looks very different.
Genoa: ...it looks like a wiring diagram of your aura. The information that we receive by mapping out where all of the planets are, that information is then indexed into an I Ching hexagram Zodiac, and from there the information is transferred into a bodygraph where hexagrams and planetary positions become gates. Then those gates open when there is a connection from down a channel.
Kelly: I'm looking at a graph here, it is sort of a human silhouette, and then you have all these lines. These are the channels?
Genoa: Well, yes. There are nine centers, and then there are 36 channels that are connecting those centers; and those centers are similar to chakras, hubs of energy, information and consciousness. Each one of them functions in a very specific way that the Human Design chart reveals. Then we have those channels that connect those systems of those hubs of energy and information, and those channels, when they are completedyou can see that some of them are colored all the way inand when they are completed the gates on either end of those channels open, and a quantum flux of information begins to happen there.
Kelly: So it is good to have an open channel, right?
Genoa: Well, there are charts that have no completed channels. That is one of the types. The Sakaru Amichi is an example, is a Reflector, the rarest of types, and that gives her, obviously, capabilities that other people may not have. So there is no good or bad in a Human Design chart. We approach this from the point of view that says your design, your energetic way of operating in the world, is perfect for you. You are born with the design that you need to have.


But most designs do have completed channels, and that represents a kind of quantum intelligence, a kind of body/mind genius that you were born in the world to externalize, to express.
Kelly: OK, so wherever you see a completed channel in a chart, that is kind of the area of genius that a person has.
Genoa: Yes, and it is a level of genius that is expressed on a different level than what we normally refer to as "mind." In other words, what we normally refer to as "mind" is spelled with a small m, so to speak, that we go through our lives thinking that we know what we are doing, thinking that we know why we are here. We can make up all kinds of things about our own lives. Then we end up living the life that we need to live.
Kelly: Regardless of all the plans that we make.
Genoa: Yes, especially as we've pulled months off our calendars. As we add life experience we come to understand that there is something else going on than what we thought was going on. There's a much bigger plan for us. We meet certain people at certain times and we don't really know why that happens. At the same time, the thing that causes us the most grief, the most stress, the most difficulty in our lives is not being integrated with the life that we live.


Human design isn't really about selfimprovement; it's about selfacceptance. It's about alignment with your body, alignment with the life that you are living and understanding how you make decisions. If you make good decisions, decisions that are actually correct for you, if you are integrated with your way of making decisions you are aligned with your life. If you are truly aligned with your life, you know that you are living your life and not someone else's life, or "why I'm doing this," is something we ask ourselves this all the time, because we feeling that we are living a life that isn't actually ours.


Human design isn't here in the world to heal the universal disease that almost every human has, which is selfhatred. We are here to accept ourselves, we are here to live the life we are here to live, and live it well. To be integrated with the life that we have and understand our decisionmaking process and understand how we got here.
Kelly: Is that one of the main axes of how you work with the human design chart with a person, or how an individual would work with their own chart?
Genoa: Yes, exactly. We each have our own authority. We each have our own way of making decisions. We each know that we have our authority.
Kelly: Apparently 70 percent of humanity is...
Genoa: Generators...
Kelly: Right...
Genoa: This is generator planet.
Kelly: OK [laughs]
Genoa: Your type owns this planet.
Kelly: My type! [laughs]
Genoa: Well in the...
Kelly: We rule... [laughs]
Genoa: Well and the other three types are here to facilitate what generators do. The human design gets down to a level of total exactitude, which really kind of raises the hair on the back of your neck. In terms of the exact meaning of these three lines, and how they're our connected in with this deign. The details are really what catches people.
Kelly: OK.
Genoa: This is that you have a human design reading and you hear all this information about rapport, about connection with other people, about how your energetics operates in the world. You kind of hear it and you go, "Oh this is very interesting" and I say at the beginning of reading, "We are using our minds to do this reading and we are making this CD and I want you to listen to this CD more than what is rational." We are trained to use our minds to think our way through life. We are trying to think that we can control reality. We are trained to think that we can control our reality. We are trained to think that we can get on top of what is happening to us. If we could just organize our experience, if we could change it around, if we could make it into a better experience then we could "have it together." Then we could have a better life.


This is the way we fight with ourselves. You hear about in a human design reading about how you've been condition to be someone other than who you are. That's called that "Not self Dilemma." About how we can we be conditioned somebody other than who we are and we've condition to live a life that's not our own, and we can't live that life. We get into pretence, pretending we are living our life. That's the awfully feeling many people are living there lives with. They are living with this feeling that they aren't living the right life.
Kelly: I love astrology. I love these different ways of looking at people, but I do have an objection sometimes to the way it is presented. Last year I was having this Neptune trance, and astrologer told me that if I was ever going to take a year off and go to Bali and paint, this would be the year because you aren't going to get a lot accomplished. Well, I got a lot accomplished.
Genoa: Well he didn't have a human design chart because it is impossible for you not to be busy.
Kelly: Would you be looking at my chart saying in six months you have a particular transit coming up and you should be careful because...
Genoa: No, in fact in human design we read charts from a very different point of view. We read charts from the point of view that you have your own individual and personal authority. That you know what it is you are meant to be doing, that your body instrument knows how to dose out reality. It knows how to find energetics. In the end, human design is about being totally honest.
Kelly: Totally authentic, right?
Genoa: Totally Authentic. Totally honest about who you are. Saying "this is just who I am." When you see what the human design reveals about your vehicle, you realize that life is just extraordinarily simple. If you drop all pretense and you are just yourself, you realize that I'm here in the world just to be me; I can't be anyone else.
Kelly: Right. That's what makes everybody happy, when they can be themselves.
Genoa: We are very specific. Human Beings are very specific and very exact.
Kelly: And very unique.
Genoa: And very unique, and we are here to do something very exact. So you are hiring someone to be secretary and you say, "Well you can shuffle papers." Anybody with average intelligence can file can't they?
Kelly: No.


[laughs]
Kelly: Well Santa Fe has an odd job market here.
Genoa: Often times we see people trying to do things they are very bad at.
Kelly: Yes, and they are miserable.
Genoa: They are miserable and they aren't doing very well at it. At the same time, they have this deep body mind genius that's seeking expression in the world and here they are flexing around trying to do something that isn't related to that at all. We actually have a society based on that. Our society is deeply alienated. On a deeper level, human design is here in the world. Remember this has just arrived.
Kelly: This hasn't been around very long. It's also not so easy to get educated on.
Genoa: Yes this is very true.
Kelly: It's very expensive. So you're educating.
Genoa: Yes, we publish all the books. The college of human design is here in Santa Fe.
Kelly: So people are flying here from all over to learn how to do human design charts or more for there own? Or Both?
Genoa: It's very interesting that you would ask that particular question in that way. Yes, we are educating people to "do human design," but that is not really the point. The real point is that human design is here in the world to help people interact with each other. What I'm most interested in, is what human design is going to do when people learn it and start using it in their lives. The thing that is most exciting is that this is being taken up by young people. What we find is that when a young teenager takes up their human design, they get it in a matter of minutes. It's like teenagers can do this in a way that adults find it very difficult. That haven't been as deeply conditioned, and they're closer to remembering their true authority. So if you say to a teenager, "You have your unique personal authority." They go, "Well, yeah!" "Duh!"
Kelly: [laughs] Yeah, dude!
Genoa: Yeah, like I needed you to tell me that?
Kelly: Right.
Genoa: We kid around about that.
Kelly: They have special teenage knowledge.
Genoa: Yea they do. In fact they have discovered that teenagers biochemically and even biologically in terms of the structure of their brain, that adults have more in common with infants than with teenagers. It's my personal theory from my observation, that teenagers are designed to be the people who bring new things into a society.
Kelly: Mmhmm. Are there any books available in stores on human design?
Genoa: No.
Kelly: See that's what I'm saying. It's not very out there in the public.
Genoa: That's right. This is because it really needs to reach another level. This is the first time in recorded history that a system of cosmology has come into the world.


Most systems of cosmology, like astrology, Vedic astrology, these things have been here for thousands of years and their origins go back before recorded history. This is a new system of cosmology that arrived 19 years ago.


So for the first 19 years we've been getting this grounded, teaching it in a great deal of detail and teaching it as a system of cosmology and in quite an arcane way. We've really needed to get it into the technological hands of adults who know how to perpetuate this and make sure it stays here.


We are now entering the second phase.
Kelly: Right, that's because you don't want it to be some kind of fortune telling .
Genoa: Oh, that's right. Oh, and can it be used for that?
Kelly: Oh, it can.
Genoa: Oh my gosh, it's like Nostradamus supercharged. If you look at the human design and you look at the transits and you get a reading from a human design analyst it changes your life deeply. But it isn't really what it's about.


What it's about is what we're calling Human Design II. That is going to another level of energy and it's coming out into the world as an energetic method of people interacting with each other. It's on the fly. It's moving.


It is another level of consciousness. That's what it is. When the person who received the human design said, "I heard a voice", the voice that he heard was the next level of consciousness of human beings.


The human design is only the key to that level of consciousness. So yes, you can learn the human design. And as you learn a language that is a key, a totally perfectly structured key to another level of consciousness, yes, you are drawn into that level of consciousness. I can speak about that according to my personal experience.


But that level of consciousness has a program. What we've discovered is that if you live your design, this is an energetic strategy. If you address the energy of your aura with energy, and then you climb inside of your own aura, and then you are then in the middle of the aura, you are with your authority. Then you use the strategy of the design.
Kelly: That is so trippy. I'm just going there for a second. So I've climbed inside my aura.
Genoa: Yes. And you are in the middle of the mandala.
Kelly: OK, I'm in the middle of the mandala.
Genoa: And you look at the print out of the human design and you see this human design graph and you see this human design mandala. We as adults will tend to look at that and think, "Oh, what is this complex thing? It looks a little bit like a cute little robot that's somebody was coloring in and was called to dinner. It looks a little bit like a landing strip and gee, how is this like the I Ching? Where does the Kabala come into this?" Immediately we're trying to put it together with our minds.


But if you actually climb inside of the mandala, you actually enter a level of consciousness where everything is synchronistic. Everything is a continual dj vu. You know that feeling? I've been here before.
Kelly: Yeah, I sure do. Yeah.
Genoa: Yeah? And I dreamed that I had this conversation before. And that feeling like I'm in exactly in the right place at the right time. I couldn't be anywhere else. The world is utterly perfect. Even if I had the power or the opportunity to change this, how could I possibly change this because this is utterly perfect? I'm actually on time. This is actually the life I'm meant to live. There I am, right in the now, within the life that I'm meant to live. And I know I'm here because I've made the decisions, which are correct for me.


My interactions with other people are radically and completely honest. I don't have a shred of pretense. I'm not pretending at all. I'm actually here. Right?


And from that place, the details of human design melt into your aura.
